BUILDING
PROJECT: Cornerstone House Of Prayer, Chennai
-
This
work started in 1985 and has taken shape as a local church with an
attendance of about 200 people. Most of them come from other faiths and
are from the lower end of the spectrum of a class ridden society.
-
They
meet on the flat roof of a house. The building is showing signs of
structural damage as it was not built for that purpose.
-
They
desperately need a place ... We feel particularly burdened because the
people despite their generous giving ... it doesn't seem to amount to
much, as they at average earn about £30/- a month.
-
In
2003 with the generous support of friends of 'The Final Commission'
they managed to buy a piece of land that cost about £12,000/-.
-
We are hoping to raise about
£30,000/- towards the 1st
phase of the building. So far nearly £6000/- has been raised
collectively [via local church in chennai + us]. [August'2006].
Post -
Tsunami
- We had 2
direct appeals from India from churches
affected by the Tsunami. [1] A
branch church of Philadelphia Assembly [Chennai] in Naikarkuppam,
Nagapattinam. [2] Mission
to Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
- As
part of our disaster relief we have managed
to raise and send £3,200/-. towards rebuilding of lives and
homes. We had many other organisations in the UK who sent funds
directly to them.
- In December'05, we had the
opportunity to visit the village with pastor
Charles Dawson from Philadelphia Assembly, Chennai, who is overseer the
relief programme in Naikarkuppam.
- We were pleased
to see how your giving had made difference to their lives. We were
taken on one of the fishing boats they bought with the aid given.
Helped
from debt:
- Panner Selvam, a auto driver was crippled by debt. The ill
advised loan
was taken from a loan shark. To help him come out from their clutches,
we have paid £500/- and cleared half of his debt. He has taken
necessary steps in terms of financial planning. He is now, on the road
to being debt free. [December'2005]
- Gopi suffered a nervous
breakdown and lost his job. His family went through severe hardship
as a direct result. They had to borrow to make ends meet. Gopi is
much better today and is back at work. Despite going to back to work
they were not able to get out of debt. Your
giving of £50/-
was able to help them come out of debt and they are able to carry on
living normal lives. [September'2003]
Peniel,
Kodaikanal:
This work is set in the
hills and in the surrounding hamlets. This work is among the local
tribal groups. Packiadass, the pastor with a team of dedicated
workers, are doing a marvellous job in bringing the gospel to them.
Your regular support helps
and encourages them, knowing that they are not alone doing their
work in a remote part of India.
Bethesda
Children’s Home, Karasangal:
This
is a children's home with about 15 children. They are either orphans
or abandoned. Here they looked after by Isaac and his family, where
their needs are looked after. As one can imagine the needs are
enormous.
We [Mike, Jenny, Clare, Philip ,
Matthew & I] visited them last December. We were able to help them
purchase some essential furniture, gas hobs, and a fridge freezer. Mike
also bought a cow which would supply them with milk. This was all
possible by your generosity. [December'2005].
Mission
to Andaman & Nicobar
islands:
Pastor
David Paul, [of Mission to Andaman & Nicobar islands] has asked for
help with furnishing fees, uniforms and kit for 20 children. It costs
approximately £25/- per child. [August'2006].
